This concept for title design for the film Chungking Express was inspired by the relationship dynamics in the film. The beauty of this film as a romantic comedy comes from it paradoxical nature, as the characters fall in love but nothing ever comes of it in the film creating an undeniable tension between the characters as external factors such as proximity keep them apart. Full of tangible tension, and a perpetual sense of loneliness this concept aims to explore the relationship between emotional distance and physical proximity of the character relationships in the film.

All shots were photographed in a studio lighting set with a prime macro lense to get the maximum clarity and detail in every photo. Each frame was shot in three different focal lengths and layered in post production to get the best range of depth and texture detail in all of the shots. Color correction and light compositing was the final step in the process.
